Many Characteristics of Vacuum Seal Storage Bags

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Those popular vacuum-sealed storage bags are flexible, multi-dimensional and safe. Consumers are finding interesting short and long-term uses for the air-tight, waterproof storage bags.

Most people think of the convenience of those plastic food storage bags for sandwiches, snacks and short-term leftovers. Those bags are self-sealing and should not be confused with the new longer and short-term vacuum-sealed storage bags.

How They Work

As new manufacturers have come to see the popularity of the bags, different designs have resulted. This includes varying ideas on how to best draw the air from the storage bag. One manufacturer even requires the consumer to acquire a vacuum sealer that is about the size of one of those three-hole punch machines in your office.

The user packs the bags with whatever non-liquid foodstuffs or canned goods are needed. Make sure to leave about a three inch gap to the open mouth of the bag. Slide the open end into the sealer and turn on the switch. The device then sucks all the air from inside the bag. Once the bag is air-free, the vacuum heat seals the bag.

The three inch gap allows the user to re-enter the bag to withdraw items or to place new items in the bag. To preserve the integrity of the storage area, the vacuum seal must be applied each time the bag is opened. Once sealed, the bag is ready to be placed in the refrigerator or in a cupboard.

Another Type

Other manufacturers have developed other solutions, the most popular of which is a top loading bag that features a self-contained air valve. Once the bag is loaded, again permitting a two-three inch gap, and the bag is closed, the user connects the household vacuum hose to the air valve and draws all the air from inside the bag.

The air-tight seal protects the goods from water or other moisture related conditions. The process is safe and healthy.

One advantage of this storage bag is the stackable shape of the unit. Multiple bags can be placed in the freezer, refrigerator or on cupboard shelves. These are similar to the bags used by most supermarkets, who have large volumes of food to store for periods of time.

Shapes and Sizes

Most bags have a polyethylene, heavy duty puncture resistant exterior that is sometimes supplemented with an outside cover. The storage bags are available is differing sizes and shapes and colors.

The bags are now distributed in more than 40 countries. There are 11 prominent manufacturers, each with their own claims to fame. Do your research and check reviews to locate the vacuum-sealed storage bag that best suits your purpose.

Easy Storage For Seasonal Items

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Finding storage for seasonal items can be a challenge for many homeowners. Possessions need to be kept safe, but out of the way. However, you also want to be able to easily find and retrieve these items when they are needed. All of your goals can be accomplished with just a little prior planning and organization.

You might want to recycle cardboard boxes to hold items. Use tape to seal them against dirt and insects. Prepare a brief list of the contents and tape a copy on at least two sides of the box. This makes it easier to identify what is inside. You do not need to list every item, but provide enough information that you will know which box holds the item you are seeking.

Consider purchasing plastic bins for storage. Use different colored bins that you will associate with the items within. For instance, you could use red ones for Christmas decorations, green ones for camping gear, or orange ones for Halloween costumes. You could also use clear bins so that you can see what they contain. Such methods eliminate the need to move and open several bins just to find the right one.

The vacuum seal bags work well for reducing the bulk of fabric items, such as blankets or coats. After placing your things inside, you use a vacuum cleaner to remove the air. This reduces the bulk of the items and keeps them safe within a sealed environment. Keep in mind, however, that while these reduce bulk, they do not reduce weight. Make sure that you do not place more in a bag than you can comfortably lift.

To increase storage space in the garage, consider placing shelves along one wall to hold boxes or bins. This not only makes it easier to remove just the one you need, but it protects boxes from being crushed from double stacking. You can purchase shelving units or make your own.

Hang bulky items whenever possible. Sturdy hooks placed in the wall studs of your garage increase storage by utilizing space that is normally wasted. Hang items such as tent bags, backpacks, or luggage. If desired, place a large, clear plastic bag over them first to add more protection while still keeping items visible.

The garage ceiling can often to find additional storage for seasonal items. Two strong hooks set at the proper spacing allow you to hang a bicycle out of the way. You can also construct a platform that is suspended from the ceiling and then decked with plywood. While it is not advisable to place heavy items on such a platform, you can use it for smaller, lightweight items. Be sure to place it out of your primary walkway, and consider the clearance for the garage door before choosing a location.

Aim at keeping all of your stored items where they are either visible or easy to identify. Try to avoid stacking containers for different seasons together. In other words, attempt to place all summer gear in one location and all holiday decor in another. This can save you a lot of time and energy when you are ready to break things out of storage.

Customer seeking storage options often exhaust the option of using a garage space or additional building behind their homes before seeking options for storage provided to the public.

Security options for a public storage option may vary based on the facility and the items being stored. Many facilities offer units with climate control able to withstand storage for many precious items. Other facilities may offer storage facilities for items as large as cars without the option for climate control. Access to either facility should be the concern of the customer seeking to prevent theft of any items being stored. Customers are encouraged to purchase a lock with a combination and a lock with a key to ensure the safety of their items.

Providing access to a storage facility may require a special code provided by the facility or created by the customer. Many customers find it simple to create a complex number required to gain access to the gate or the door way containing the unit with their items. Customers are advised not to write this access number down where others are able to locate this information to ensure proper security.

The price requirements of a storage unit varies based on the unit and the storage provider. Many providers base the price on the size of the unit and the duration of the contract. Signing a lease of a space may require a deposit and subject to terms or conditions set by the facility owner. Many facilities offer insurance for damaged items or protection of theft.

Customers with large items such as cars or smaller items such as boxes have many choices in storage facility units. The options for sizes varies and can offer different price ranges to secure the lease for the sizes. Customers are encouraged to take in consideration any additional items that may need to be added to the unit at any time in the near future.

Many public storage facilities have a limited number of hours for operation. Customers seeking to gain access to their materials are restricted based on the hours determined by the storage facility. Customers seeking information on the hours of operation and hours of access are provided documentation during the lease process to ensure each party is aware of the designated times set for each transaction.

Choosing the right public storage option can be tricky if the customer is unaware of the amount of items they would like to store. Wall Shelving Systems To Satisfy Every Requirement

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

You can choose a wall shelving system for your home or office to suit your most exacting requirement. There is a plethora of colors, color combinations, shade effects, styles and materials readily available at a good furniture showroom. You can have corner mounting units, free-standing units, or wall-mounted units. The choice is yours!

The kind of wall shelving unit you should buy depends on a number of factors. One of the most critical of these factors is the location of the wall shelving unit. That and the space available in that location. For example, you want a wall shelving unit over on the east wall. There is a projection on that wall at a height of…? You must know the exact height of the projection because it will obstruct the wall shelving unit if the wall shelving unit is higher than it is. Other choices include free-standing or wall-mounted wall shelving units. That choice depends on how permanently the wall shelving units are located.

The load you’ll place on the wall shelving units are yet another important factor in the choice of a wall shelving unit. You’ll require a heavy metal wall shelving unit for heavy loads, a glass or wood wall shelving unit for light to moderate loads, and wireframe units for those bulky goods which may not be very heavy. Make the best use of the range of wall shelving units that are available to you. A good choice will mean more convenience, more storage, and more floor space!

Wall shelving units need not be dull and boring functional units. There is a wide range of materials to choose from, all readily available. So you can choose the wall shelving unit that most suits your style and design requirements. With such a vast range of shapes, styles, materials and colors to choose from, there is no reason why you should not indulge in your artistic and aesthetic fancy!

Take your pick of wall shelving unit categories. Free-standing, hanging, modular, adjustable, or fixed, these are just some varieties of wall shelving units. The track-type wall shelving unit gives you the most flexibility in changing the unit’s configuration according to your changing requirements.

Hanging shelves come with a variety of bracket styles. Use wall-mounted units with adjustable shelves wherever the shelving demands can change. An example is a child’s room. As he grows, the shelves can be adjusted to grow with him.

Be careful when you use a free-standing wall shelving unit. Anchor it to the wall if you think it can topple over. It will be advisable to use a free-standing that is designed to really stand on its own without support or anchoring.

Finally, you can have these wall shelving systems custom built to your order, or you can purchase them ready-made. Shelves are very handy to make use of every bit of space in the house. Take advantage of the possibilities these modern wall shelving systems offer you.

The most effective way to save space in an already crowded location is by installing kitchen pantry shelving. But for some the garage is the most cluttered area, then garage storage shelves are a must have. Visit www.shelving-resource.com to learn more about your shelving options.

Instructions On How To Install DIY Metal Buildings

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

After you have lived in a home for quite some time, it is obvious that you tend to accumulate more things. After a while you might find that you have acquired so many different items that you are either going to have to sell a lot of your stuff just to have room. Another option that you have is go out and get yourself one of the many different types of DIY metal buildings.

You probably think that this would be far too difficult to do on your own, but if you get one that is not too big, there should be no reason why you could not go a head and put the building together yourself. Of course it is in your best interest if you recruit some family and or friends to help you construct it.

You will need a few items that are not included with the building kit in order to be able to erect it. Those items would be a transit, level rod, level, carpentry tools, and plumb bob. Once you have gathered all of these you are going to have to get some concrete so you can make a floor for your building. Make sure that you pay close attention to how to mix and pour the concrete. Before you do however; make sure the area is completely cleared of any debris.

Once you have measured out the area for the concrete of the future steel buildings and have cleared the area you can now pour the concrete where the building is going to be erected. The next thing you will do is to make sure you put in the anchor bolts and after that you can level out the concrete with a transit. Use a level to make sure you have smoothed it out evenly.

The columns that come with DIY future steel buildings are the next thing that you will erect. You will connect them with the girts that came with the building parts. To keep the columns from falling you will need to set up a temporary structure that will hold them in place. Make sure to tighten your anchor bolts at this point.

Now that you have done all of this attach the girts, purlins and eave struts. Make sure that everything is level at this point by either using a plumb bob or a transit. When you are done with that tighten all of the connecting bolts as well as the anchor bolts.

Take the components for the end building and finger bolt the pieces together. After this is done you will need to hoist these into position with the primary building.

Now make sure to install load bracing rods both horizontal and diagonal before you do anything else. These must be anchored to the columns with eye bolts, washers and nuts. You will now take the rest of purlins, girts, and the struts and erect them. Anchor all of them with fasteners very loosely. Finally plumb and level everything again then go around and tighten everything that needs to be tightened.

The final thing that you will do is attach metal roof sheet as well as all of the metal wall sheets. These need to overlap the outside ribs when you fasten them. Use a continuous tape sealer or you can use mastic tape, either one is good for waterproofing. Insulation can be added to both the walls and roof if you want. You can also add trim, gutters and flashings.

Offering state-of-the-art production values and engineering, our future steel buildings are among the best in the industry. The future steel buildings come in practical and efficient designs. A wide range of future steel buildings is available at affordable prices.

Help For Deciding Between Plastic, Metal or Wooden Sheds

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

If you are trying to decide whether to purchase plastic, metal or wooden sheds, there are quite a few considerations to keep in mind. Aside from the overall costs, we will be looking at three basic categories. They are: durability; flexibility; and appearance.

Durability

Plastic and metal sheds have their weaknesses even though they are both durable and reliable products. Metal sheds get blistering hot in warmer climates and plastic (vinyl) can take a beating if exposed to heat for long periods of time. If untreated, wooden sheds can be damaged by overexposure to heat and sunlight but this is easily remedied by treating with a high quality water sealer. Fortunately, all these types of materials can be painted which provides an added protection.

Imagine how unsightly your shed would look with a few good sized dents in it. This is exactly what can happen to your shed if it is made from metal. Wooden sheds, on the other hand, are pretty easy to repair if they are nicked by filling in the hole with wood filler and simply painting or staining over it. Wooden sheds can also handle extreme weather conditions quite nicely since they are framed very much the same way that houses are.

Freedom With Wood

It can definitely be overwhelming when you start to shop for sheds simply because there are so many choices. All of these shed types – whether they are metal, plastic or wood, come in many different styles and sizes. Perhaps the biggest advantage of using wood over the other two materials is that you are able to construct a custom shed from scratch.

For a minimal cost, you can purchase and download from hundreds of shed plans online. If you have a particular need, you can simply alter your shed plans. So, let’s say, you want to store a motorcycle or tractor mower and you need to add extra length to the plans, now is the time to do it. This makes a great starting point for anyone that has basic carpentry skills.

Appearance

The overall appearance of a wooden shed can’t be touched in comparison to plastic or metal. Take advantage of the wood’s natural beauty (especially cedar) by simply sealing the wood with a high quality water sealant or stain. Place your wooden shed in a place where you can easily see it from your house. Metal and plastic sheds are better placed farther from view are even off to the side of the house.

You can find a lot more on garden sheds at BestWoodenSheds.com, the most comprehensive site on the web for wooden sheds. The site includes FREE shed plans, shed kits, a FREE ebook, and lots of information, tips and ideas for your own wooden shed.

Problems In Storage? A Personal Warehouse Can Help

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Humans have a tendency to place sentimental value on things that they possess. Over time, these objects mount and take up so much space in their homes. Endless transitions in the lives of humans, such as births, marriages, and death, produce big tumults in their lives, which compel them to live in a different way after going through with any of these.

If you have undergone any of this, you are in good company. Probably, you are already aware of how difficult it is to keep your things organized after you have experienced one big life transition. Probably you’ve married just recently, and are now having woes over the squabbles you and your better half are having over who has to sacrifice and throw away personal belongings that each one had collected before getting married.

It could probably also be that you are a student who recently graduated and are in the process of looking for a job. You probably have a deadline for moving your personal possessions out of your old student dorm. The dorm manager may have gently told you that the student residence is not your personal warehouse. To keep the peace in a newly married couple’s life, the personal warehouse is a concession for both; in there, they can store the personal stuff they have gathered before their marriage. For the new graduate, a personal warehouse is an ideal place to keep one’s personal belongings until such time he or she can already rent an apartment.

For one to be able to rest easy that their personal belongings are safe in a personal warehouse, some factors about the security measures used in the storage firm have to be carefully checked. Ideally, good warehouse firms employ state of the art security and alarm systems on top of security personnel patrolling the perimeter and interior of the facility.
